Research Concept // 2020

With the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbating the the socioeconomic dynamic, it came to mind how architecture will ultimately change as a result. Social distancing, telenetworking, and quarantine guidelines have become commonplace in a once interactive society. This distance has fostered loneliness and hardships within communities as there is less social equity. I envision architecture adapting to this change through growth and transparency. Aggregation with close proximity is enabled from safety of physical barriers. Developing new sources of light and opacity can allow for passing neighbors to stay in touch, understanding their surroundings. As society is adjusting to this wireless economy, it is more important than ever to keep the notion of physical interaction through distant means.

Drifters drifting about...

Utilizing kitbashing techniques, we can create unique architectural elements that can each have distinct programs that enable drift. Bowing vending machines, bipedal information hubs, roaming housing, and prosthetics are just only a few opportunities. Having the ability to drift can fully utilize freespace, allowing for mutualism between citizens and architecture. In this sense, architecture has truly become a machine that affects the human condition.
